Heritage Oak’s Music Program Earns Top Honor
Yorba Linda, Calif. (May 13, 2016)— Last weekend, four musical groups from Heritage Oak Private School competed in the World Strides Heritage Festival at Fullerton College and received the Instrumental Sweepstakes Award. This award recognizes the school with the highest combined scores in band and orchestra.
The groups competing were the Second Year Band, comprised mainly of fifth grade students, the Fifth Grade Orchestra, the Middle School Concert Band, and the Middle School Orchestra. All groups received a Gold Rating for the Elementary and Middle School Categories. Additionally, the Middle School Orchestra received two separate awards—the Adjudicators Award and Best Overall Orchestra.
The performance by the Middle School Orchestra has qualified them to participate in the “Festival of Gold” competition during the 2017-18 School year.
All Heritage Oak students begin playing the violin in first grade. They transition in fourth grade to either playing a band instrument (brass, woodwind, and percussion) or joining the orchestra (all string instruments). The Middle School Bands and Orchestra are elective courses for sixth through eighth grade students.
