Character Education

Heritage Oak Private School is known in the community for its dedication to encouraging and rewarding positive character traits.  Children are taught to practice etiquette and show respect on a daily basis.  For Heritage Oak students, every morning starts with a firm handshake and a greeting that includes eye contact with their teacher. Each day, class begins with a group meeting which includes the Flag Salute and a morning reflection to instill an attitude of gratitude .  The Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship) are interwoven into the daily lessons, allowing children to identify and apply the traits to their own lives.  Second grade through eighth grade students attend cotillion—a social graces curriculum.

Our unique leadership program fosters the development of sound character, a sense of self-worth, democratic values, ethical judgement, and self-discipline.  Students that display these skills are recognized by their teachers and peers though the “Citizen of the Month” program.  Families and friends are encouraged to also reward students’ positive behaviors on campus and at home with the “Do the Right Thing Award.”  This program provides formal recognition for executing positive behaviors at home, at school, and in the community.
