WEEK 1: June 17th – June 21st

AM Rockstar Readers – 1st-2nd
Studies have shown that children who do not read over summer can lose up to three months of progress! This class will help them stay refreshed with their reading fluency and comprehension skills. Each day will incorporate a new genre and will give the students an opportunity to explore character traits, practice predicting, recognize connections, and make inferences. Keep their minds active and enroll today!
** There will be NO class on Wednesday due to the Juneteenth Holiday. Specialty class will run on Friday. *English Proficiency Required

AM Phonics & Fluency – JK/K
Increase your child’s phonics and fluency skills with hands-on activities. Students will strengthen phonics skills through fun-filled songs and center-based activities. Children will practice vowel sounds, consonant sounds, and blends each day, along with participating in spelling practice. Children will create their own sight word flash cards throughout the week, which will come home on the last day for continued practice over the summer. ** There will be NO class on Wednesday due to the Juneteenth Holiday. PM Reading Rocks: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (NEW) JK-1st
Studies have shown that children who do not read over summer can lose up to three months of progress! This class will help them stay refreshed with their reading fluency and comprehension skills. Each day will incorporate a new book from the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series. Along with creating thematic crafts, this week will give the students an opportunity to explore character traits, practice predicting, recognize connections, and make inferences. This interactive reading camp is a great way to keep your child’s mind active! ** There will be NO class on Wednesday due to the Juneteenth Holiday. Specialty class will run on Friday. *English Proficiency Required

WEEK 3: July 1st – July 3rd

AM Build a Book – JK-2nd
Inspired by beloved children’s books, this class will allow students to explore various strategies to deeply understand a literature selection. The story will capture the students’ attention while giving them an opportunity to study story elements, explore character traits, and practice predicting, drawing connections, and making inferences. Students will also participate in various art and writing projects such as making puppets used to recreate the story, designing their own version of the book, and writing the story by hand. Students will also explore the character lessons displayed in the book and learn about fairness, respect, responsibility, caring, and compassion. *There will be NO class on Thursday due to the 4th of July Holiday. Specialty class will run on Friday. *English Proficiency Required.

This class is for aspiring authors who want to learn writing techniques to compose their own timeless story. Students will not only learn key elements of storytelling but will also learn the step-by-step process of creating a unique piece of literature. The children will gain confidence as they watch their ideas become crafted into a piece of written art. *There will be NO class on Thursday due to the 4th of July Holiday. This class is designed to help students delve into texts to better identify, interpret, and infer using a variety of literary strategies. Our tailored lessons will provide a wonderful environment for students to receive differentiated instruction to improve their reading skills for the upcoming school year. Topics include analyzing text structure, understanding the author’s purpose, drawing inferences, and identifying context clues. *English Proficiency Required.

WEEK 7: July 29th – August 1st

AM Reader’s Theater – 1st-2nd
Become a reader’s theater superstar! In this fun and exciting camp, students will strengthen their reading fluency skills by practicing and performing a reader’s theater script. Students will get different roles and work together in groups to work on their expression, eye contact, and presentation skills. They will build their confidence and have fun creating props and backdrops to go with their stories. At the end of the week, their stories will be brought to life for their reader’s theater performance! *English Proficiency Required.

AM Read & Sequence – JK/K
This class will focus on engaging the student while working on comprehension, fluency, and building confidence. Each story will provide students with a genuine opportunity to practice reading short stories they can decode with phonics skills and sight word recognition. This class is ideal for the struggling reader or beginning reader as the stories will provide work in the foundation of reading through phonics and sight words. *English Proficiency Required.

AM Advanced Novel Study – 3rd-5th
Students will read a novel selected by the teacher throughout the week that contains a fully integrated, creative, and comprehensive curriculum. Students will work on answering detailed comprehension questions, vocabulary, story element analysis, projects, and engaging worksheets. Students will also be given their own copy of this novel to keep! *English Proficiency Required.

WEEK 8: August 5th – August 8th

PM Read It & Eat It – JK/K
Students will learn the true meaning of classic literature selections while making creative art pieces and fun and tasty cooking projects aligned with the story. The class will read/listen to a book and discuss details, main ideas, and characters. They will then participate in a writing assignment that goes along with the book. Each day we will end the class by tasting the food that was discussed in the story. *English Proficiency Required.
