Students from Heritage Oak Private Education Raise More Than $3,000 to Benefit Foster Care Children
YORBA LINDA, Calif. (March 26, 2018) – Students from Heritage Oak Private Education in Yorba Linda recently raised more than $3,000 in donations to provide more than 100 duffel bags filled with comforting and essential supplies for distribution to foster care children. Throughout the winter, students collected contributions from fellow students, parents and the community to produce the duffel bags, called “sweet cases.” At the close of the fundraiser, students decorated the “sweet cases,” filled them with items like toiletries, teddy bears and books, and helped load the filled bags into vehicles for delivery. Each bag will help ensure a foster care child won’t have to rely on trash bags to hold their belongings as they move from home to home. The project was in support of nonprofit organization Together We Rise and was organized by the school’s “Kindness Crew,” which is made up of sixth to eighth grade students who work to implement kindness throughout the school and community.
Together We Rise is a nonprofit organization, comprised of motivated young adults and former youth, that works to improve the lives of foster care children in America, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public.
