“Marvel”ous Math: A Superhero Math Adventure  – Preschool/Pre-k  *Not available to Early Learners
Campers will learn about counting, number recognition, one to one correspondence, and simple addition and subtraction as they glide through the universe with “superhero” powers!  There will be hands on centers focused on and around this “Marvel”ous theme.

Archery – 4th-5th Grade
Due to the success of last year’s session, Heritage Oak is once again offering a course in the Olympic sport of archery! Campers will be taught the fundamentals of stance, nocking, aiming, and loosing arrows in a fun, safe learning environment. Compound bow mastery, compensating for weather, judging distance and terrain, and mental exercises for clarity and focus will all be covered in this exciting camp.

DIY: Lego Costume, Kindergarten-8th Grade
This summer campers will transform themselves into their favorite Lego characters. Campers will have the opportunity to design their very own Lego costume using cardboard boxes and Styrofoam. Using the counselor’s help, campers will measure, cut, paint, and glue the materials to make their Lego character come to life. Don’t miss out on a costume your child would love to make!

Enchanted Toy Workshop – Kindergarten-3rd Grade
If you think Santa's Elves are the best toy makers, then you haven't visited Mrs. Bernard’s Enchanted Toy Workshop! Every day our creative builders will get to craft one or more incredible new toys! Whether your preference is building bears, crafting cars, or designing the best costume mask, this camp will feature activities you'll love. On the final day, campers will reveal the Enchanted Toy Shop, where they can display, trade, and sell their toys, or even choose one to donate to CHOC Hospital! Enchanted Toy Workshop: Because when you build your own toys, they become treasures. 

School Year Prep – Kindergarten
This two-week Academic Summer Camp will prepare students for the next grade level, in a fun interactive environment. We teach the basics; reading, writing and math. This class is perfect for all non-Heritage Oak students or Heritage Oak students with entry level skills. Students in Kindergarten will be taught to break down words by learning the sounds that each letter and combination of letters makes. Students will also learn to look for clues in the illustrations and in the passages to figure out unfamiliar words as well as practice sight words.  In math, children will learn symbols for addition and subtraction, calendars, and problem-solving skills. 

School Year Prep – 1st Grade
This two-week Academic Summer Camp will prepare students for the next grade level, in a fun interactive environment. We teach the basics; reading, writing and math. This class is perfect for all non-Heritage Oak students or Heritage Oak students with entry level skills. Children in 1st grade camp will start with writing stories, practicing operations and currency addition, and they will develop a range of reading skills. 1st grade students will be encouraged to employ different strategies based on their individual learning styles in order for them to become proud, confident, and happy readers.

School Year Prep – 2nd-3rd Grade
This two-week Academic Summer Camp will prepare students for the next grade level, in a fun interactive environment. We teach the basics; reading, writing and math. This class is perfect for all non-Heritage Oak students or Heritage Oak students with entry level skills. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade camp will learn to write complete sentences, full paragraphs, and creative stories. Each child will progress as an independent reader and work up to an appropriate comprehension level. The teacher will encourage each child to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.  Students will also multiply multi-digit numbers and work with simple fractions and decimals.

School Year Prep – 4th-5th Grade
This two-week Academic Summer Camp will prepare students for the next grade level, in a fun interactive environment. We teach the basics; reading, writing and math. This class is perfect for all non-Heritage Oak students or Heritage Oak students with entry level skills. 4th and 5th grade campers will apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division, fractions, percent, probability, statistics, and geometry.  In Language Arts, students will be exploring various vocabulary words and further develop their writing skills. They will also learn to identify the stages of plot development, from exposition to resolution, and they will encounter multiple styles of text--from biography to fiction to poetry.

STEM- States of Matter – 1st-3rd Grade
Students will learn about all the states of matter including; solids, liquids, gases, evaporation, melting, freezing, heating, and much more. Emphasis will be placed on how matter changes from one form to another. The children will focus on vocabulary as well as completing Lab Reports for each experiment.

RSPK – Come Write with Me – Pre-k only
This camp will feature several fun and engaging activities which will encourage campers to strengthen their fine motor control without even realizing it!  Campers will utilize pencils, dry erase markers, shaving cream, highlighters, hole punchers and more as they build the fundamental skills necessary for writing.  Proper pencil grip and letter formation will be the main academic focus during this week of wonderful writing.

Advanced School Year Prep – Kindergarten
This two-week Academic Summer Camp is designed for students who are accelerated in reading, writing, and math beyond their upcoming grade level.  This class is perfect for current Heritage Oak students who have successfully mastered our advanced curriculum or students who are well prepared for a challenging curriculum. Students in junior kindergarten and kindergarten will practice reading long sentences with unfamiliar vocabulary and editing their writing for correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. They will also practice retelling the central ideas of simple expository or narrative passages. Students will solve problems using basic graphs, charts and tables.

Advanced School Year Prep – 1st Grade
This two-week Academic Summer Camp is designed for students who are accelerated in reading, writing, and math beyond their upcoming grade level.  This class is perfect for current Heritage Oak students who have successfully mastered our advanced curriculum or students who are well prepared for a challenging curriculum. Students in 1st grade will work with their teacher to determine the meaning of unknown words in context, identify and correctly use contractions as well as use various parts of speech, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. Students will begin to identify the correlation between division facts and multiplication facts. They will also focus on understanding and identifying elapsed time and money calculations.

Advanced School Year Prep – 2nd-3rd Grade
This two-week Academic Summer Camp is designed for students who are accelerated in reading, writing, and math beyond their upcoming grade level.  This class is perfect for current Heritage Oak students who have successfully mastered our advanced curriculum or students who are well prepared for a challenging curriculum. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade will practice writing numerals in expanded form through the millions as well as estimating and measuring the weight of an object to the nearest metric and customary measure. They will multiply two or three-digit numbers by two-digit numbers with and without regrouping.  In Language Arts, students will read a text and identify the author's purpose and use punctuation indicators such as commas, periods, exclamation points, and question marks in their writing.

Advanced School Year Prep – 4th-5th Grade
This two-week Academic Summer Camp is designed for students who are accelerated in reading, writing, and math beyond their upcoming grade level.  This class is perfect for current Heritage Oak students who have successfully mastered our advanced curriculum or students who are well prepared for a challenging curriculum. 4th and 5th grade students will determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language such as metaphors and similes and compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text. In math, students will compare and order positive and negative fractions, decimals and mixed numbers as well as solve problems involving fractions, ratios, proportions, and percentages.

Basketball – Kindergarten-3rd Grade
Shoot a basket! Dribble it and pass it! Camp attendees will learn skills such as dribbling, lay ups, passing, shooting, and defense. Along with learning the rules of the sport through a variety of drills and mini games, campers will also participate in a dribbling competition and free throw contest. Please send your budding athlete with water and a healthy snack each day.

Children’s Choir - Kindergarten-3rd Grade
Hakuna Fermata! It means keep singing for the rest of your days. Campers will join Miss Tymich on a musical journey while singing songs from different genres. Songs include pieces from Broadway, Disney, and current top hits. This exciting camp will explore basic music concepts by moving and singing to all our favorite tunes.  We will also learn important beginning vocal techniques that will help future singers to develop lifelong skills. And to top it all off, we will showcase all the exciting music we learned throughout the week at a performance on Thursday.    

Police and Fire Academy – Kindergarten-3rd Grade
Police officers, firefighters and the military are our very own hometown heroes, and in this camp, your child will learn to be just like one!  Campers will use a real hose to fight fire, learn how to arrest criminals with real handcuffs, and will test their limits in boot camp--maybe they’ll even earn a badge! Children will also have an opportunity to MEET some real heroes! They will be dropping by all week to tell us about what it's like to protect our cities from crime, fire, and danger! Does your child have what it takes to be a hometown hero?

Dance Camp – Kindergarten-3rd Grade
This beginning dance class will allow campers to learn basic dance steps and positions.  Confidence and performance skills will be developed as the young dancers prepare a routine for the end-of-week dance recital. Ballet or jazz shoes and comfortable clothing are required.

Lacrosse – 4th-8th Grade
Got game? Come join the fastest game on two feet! Campers will learn how to pass, catch, and shoot as they learn the basics of the game lacrosse. The camp will be taught by Miss Kyte, who has been playing lacrosse for the past 10 years at the varsity and colligate level; she has also been a high school varsity coach for the past four years. Don't miss out on discovering your new athletic passion! Both boys and girls are welcome to join in on the fastest growing sport on the West Coast!
