Week 9 Specialty Camps (8/10-8/13)

Culinary Kids Club 1st-8th AM Camp
The napkins are pressed and the table is set! Now it’s time to join Culinary Kids Club. Your little chef will be creating works of art with food! Students will learn how to caramelize crème brulee and prepare a freshly made pizza. Students will sample their own creations, follow recipes, and have tasty snacks to bring home. A special guest appearance from a local Orange County Executive Chef will be an extra treat to complete this week of fun in the kitchen.

The Art and Science of Being Human (Circulatory System) JK-2nd AM Camp
Investigate the inner workings of the amazing human body! Uncover the beauty of how our amazing bodies work. We will use creative art techniques with ordinary objects in extraordinary ways. Come build a replica of a human lung, a simulated heart pump, and engineer ways to keep the circulatory system hard at work. Get your own body moving with fun team challenges.

MS Orchestra – 6th-8th AM Camp (Heritage Oak Students Only)
This class will prepare current orchestra students for the upcoming school year. Students will work in an ensemble with multiple instruments and sections. They will learn new techniques with their respective instruments and focus as a group on music theory, music history, listening and aural skills, music notation, and new music terms.  The camp will conclude with a video recording which will be submitted to Disneyland for a festival audition. Students interested in attending the festival during the school year must be in the audition video.

Concert Band – 6th-8th AM Camp (Heritage Oak Students Only)
Concert Band is open to students who have completed first or second year band at Heritage Oak during the school year. Please bring your Accent on Achievement Book 1 and your instrument.

Creating Comics- 3rd-8th- AM Camp (NEW)
Campers will express their creative ideas through storytelling in this fun comic book camp. Children will learn tips on creating and drawing their favorite characters as well as develop their very own characters with unique traits. This camp aims to keep children actively exhibiting their artistic abilities while learning the importance of storytelling.    

Read and Sequence – JK/K   AM Camp
This class will focus on engaging the students while working on comprehension, fluency and building confidence. Each story will provide students with an opportunity to practice reading short stories they can decode with phonics skills and sight word recognition. This class is ideal for the struggling reader or beginning reader as the stories will provide work in the foundation of reading though phonics and sight words.     

Writers Workshop – 1st- 2nd  AM Camp
This writing class will not only strengthen campers’ skills, it will also foster a love of writing in a fun, encouraging environment. Because this class will focus on writing using a voice, campers will draw inspiration from creative projects done inside the class such as painting and crafting. Each student will also keep a writing journal which will be used daily. Comparison writing activities from the start of camp until the end will allow parents to see the wonderful progress made by their campers.

STEM- Gardening- JK-3rd- PM Camp (New)
Come learn how to grow your own fruits and veggies! This fun engaging class will teach you gardening skills and the science behind it. By the end of the week you will get to take home your own plant to care for! 

The Art and Science of Being Human (Digestive System) JK-2nd PM Camp
Learn about how the amazing digestive systems works in the human body in this unique class perfect for hands-on learners. We will uncover the beauty of how our bodies use food to give us fuel through interactive art projects and experiments.  Building replicas of the digestive tract is a big highlight of this fun, learning camp. We will also observe how differently our bodies use healthy food versus junk food.

Writer’s Workshop- 3rd-5th PM Camp
This writing class will not only strengthen campers’ skills, it will also foster a love of writing in a fun, encouraging environment. Because this class will focus on writing using a voice, campers will draw inspiration from creative projects done inside the class such as painting and crafting. Each student will also keep a writing journal which will be used daily. Comparison writing activities from the start of camp until the end will allow parents to see the wonderful progress made by their campers.                                  

Cursive Club – 1st-3rd PM Camp
Students will practice their cursive penmanship using both uppercase and lowercase letters. This class will focus on proper formation, the connection of the letters, neatness, size, consistency, and the natural slant of cursive lettering. A variety of tools including sand, yarn, crayons, watercolor paint, shaving cream, chalk, and glue will add fun and excitement to the class as students perfect their skills. This camp is most useful for students who have not yet learned how to read or write in cursive as well as students who would like to improve their fine motor skills and penmanship.  

Phonics and Fluency – JK/K  PM Camp
This class is packed with phonemic awareness and phonics fun! Games for matching letters and sounds, rhyming, and counting phonemes will strengthen your child’s phonics skills. Students will also practice sight words to increase fluency.
